History
of FSDA
It
was in the back room of the Tampa
Public Library, East Lake Branch,
where 25 painting friends met May
19, 1990. It was a lovely sunny day
for our first organizational
meeting. We all agreed that there
was sufficient interest in forming a
chapter; and so we were “born”. With
wonderful programs and
demonstrations from the very
beginning, we grew to 54 members in
our first eight months.
We
fulfilled all the requirements to
become affiliated with the Society
of Decorative Painters in just under
one year, so I had the privilege of
receiving our charter at the
convention in Salt Lake City in May
1991.
TRIVIA: Did you know that
instead of the FSDA (Florida
Suncoast Decorative Artists), we
could have been TBDA (Tampa Bay
Decorative Artists) or SDAF
(Sunshine Decorative Artists of
Florida)? We voted on our name at
the meeting in September of 1990
